Back-to-School Shopping at Marshalls and T.J.Maxx

It's time for back-to-school shopping! If you are looking to score great deals on current styles and name-brand fashions, I highly recommend checking out T.J.Maxx and Marshalls.

At T.J.Maxx and Marshalls, parents can find everything on their shopping lists, including plaid tunics, updated denim, backpacks and even school supply sets

I was provided $50 in gift cards to shop and tell you about my experience. I jumped at the chance to do this, as I already love both stores AND my oldest needs clothes for kindergarten: a new school year plus a growth spurt equaled almost no clothes that fit him hanging in his closet!

We shopped at Marshalls simply because it is closer to us and we found a lot there. This was the first time that I really let my son pick out his own clothes. I thought I'd let him take the lead and see what he came up with!

Though, I have to admit that it was hard not to be distracted by the cute clothes I saw for me or the fun things I saw for around the house. I had to keep reminding myself that we were there for school shopping!

How funny that Daddy's taste apparently got passed down, since almost all the clothes that my son picked out were Polo or Tommy Hilfiger. Take a look at the great deals we found! Video below: if not appearing, please refresh page.

Polo shirts: $9.99-$12.99
Toy Story and Ecko shirts: $7.99
3 pack character underwear: $4.99
3 pack character socks: $2.99
3 piece Spiderman outfit: clearance-priced $7

How do T.J.Maxx and Marshalls provide shoppers with such incredible savings? With more than 900 stores across the country, there is a great deal of buying power behind both chains that allows a lot of flexibility in negotiating prices. T.J.Maxx and Marshalls buyers also buy merchandise closer to the time it is needed in stores, which opens up opportunities to score great deals on current season styles.  They are able to offer amazing fashions from department and mall store brands at excellent value.

I will definitely be doing more shopping at Marshalls! And recommend that you check them out, too!

*I received $50 in gift cards to shop at Marshalls. All opinions are my own. I loved Marshalls before doing this review!

Back-to-School Giveaway: $50 CSN Gift Certificate

In case you missed it, this has been our Back-to-School Celebration of giveaways! You can check out all of mine in my sidebar and check out Tammy's, too.

But, everyone's back-to-school needs are so different that I thought a gift certificate would be a fun addition! And with CSNStores, you can find everything from school supplies to wall sconces to something fun for mom! So, you can choose to get your child something needed for school or you can pick out something else entirely!

I chose to review a Toy Story toy box. It's related to back-to-school in my mind because I plan on getting more organized once the school year starts and part of that is making sure that we have enough room to store my boys' toys. My two year-old is obsessed with Toy Story, so this was a good fit.

I did have to assemble it, but it was very easy. I put it together after my boys were in bed and my youngest came flying down the stairs when he saw it in the morning, yelling "Buzz! Buzz! Mine Buzz!" It was very cute. And now I can tell him to clean up his toys by saying, "Take your toys to Buzz." He had to come investigate what I was doing near his toy box, even though he was in the middle of lunch.

One of you will win a $50 gift certificate to CSNStores to spend as you wish!

Back-to-School Giveaway: KIDStrong

With back-to-school, we have to think about what to pack in our children's lunch boxes and what to offer as snacks and drinks when we are on the go with all the activities that come with the start of the school year.

Did you know that studies show a direct link between increased consumption of sweetened beverages (many of which contain high-fructose corn syrup) and obesity?  KIDStrong® offers an alternative for kids, with a hydration beverage specifically developed for active, growing children, ages 4-13.

KIDStrong® embraces the belief that children are our planet's most valuable asset. Its mission is to deliver a message of strength, health, vitality, and optimism by providing products and understanding that empower children both physically and mentally.

KIDStrong comes in orange and grape. My five year-old was my taste-tester. He liked them both, but preferred the grape.

KIDStrong® is the first-of-its-kind all-natural hydration beverage for children. It contains no artificial flavors, colors, sweeteners, or preservatives, and is low in sugar.

It is sold in cases of 12. Each case normally retails for $25, though there is a special price right now of $19.49.

KIDStrong® is offering one of my readers TWO cases to try: one orange and one grape.

Back-to-School Giveaway: Wordlock

My first year of teaching, I taught 6th grade- new middle-schoolers. I had to use a significant amount of time that first week teaching my students how to open their lockers and constantly reminding them of their locker combinations.

I could blame the age, but I still tend to forget the combination for lock I take with me to the gym. And if you forget that combination, the lock is no longer any good to you.

But, Wordlock has a solution to both of these problems! Instead of remembering a set of numbers, the combination is a word. A 5 letter word that you get to select! AND you can easily reset the word to another one if you so choose.

One of you will win a Wordlock!

Back-to-School GREEN Giveaway: Smencils

As we do our back-to-school shopping, I'm trying to be aware and find greener choices if they are available. Both giveaways that I'm posting today fall into this category.

I got sucked into the Uncommon Goods website. "Find anything but ordinary" is their tagline and it's so true! Home decor, dining, jewelry, kids' items, and more, including lots of recycled and green items! I adore the Vintage Glass Cabochons Bracelet, among many other items on their site.

But, for our Back-to-School Celebration, Uncommon Goods sent me a set of Colored Smencils to review. And of course, one of you will get a chance to win a set, too!

These colored pencils are made from recycled newspapers and have natural scents, like watermelon, black cherry, grape, bubble gum, and more! They come in a set of 10 and are priced at $14.

They are a fun and unique back-to-school must-have!

Back-to-School Giveaways: Mabel's Labels

"Whose is this????" I used to ask in exasperation, holding up a sweatshirt or a lunch box or some other random item I'd find in my classroom back when I was teaching.

Blank looks from my students. They weren't sure, either.

And so, into the lost-and-found pile the item would go.

Now that I'm on the other end of this- being a parent instead of a teacher- I want to make sure that whatever my boys take to school is properly labeled so that it doesn't end up being shoved into lost-and-found, most likely never to be seen again.

Mabel's Labels sent each of my boys a Colourful Ultimate Back-to-School Combo. Each pack has 50 Tag Mates™ , 40 Skinny-Minis™ , 16 Shoe Labels , and 2 Teeny Tags™  and is valued at $44.

Labels for the stuff kids lose!® Perfect!

Their labels are UV resistant, microwave and dishwasher safe. I'm labeling like a mom gone mad, trying to be sure that if there is a possibility that one of my boys could lose something, it has a label on it!

Mabel's Labels offers a variety of different labels, plus allergy alerts, and even really cute mom cards. In addition to their classic line, they are now offering the label out loud line™, full colour labels.

The Ultimate Back-to-School Combo is only available until September 24th, so be sure to check it out!

One of you will win one of these combos!

To enter: please leave a separate comment for each entry. If you email is not visible in your profile, please leave it with your first comment. This giveaway is open to US and Canada only.

Back-to-School Giveaway: The North Face Vault Backpack

Every child headed back to school needs a backpack! Cookie's The Kids Department Store sent me The North Face Vault Backpack to review for my soon-to-be kindergartener.

As backpacks go, in my opinion, you can't go wrong with North Face: very durable and high quality! I don't want to have to replace a backpack partway through the school year and I don't think that will be an issue with this one! This backpack retails for $39.99 and has two pockets- enough for everything that kids need for back-to-school, but not so many that things get lost!

Backpack is available in a variety of colors. We were sent a red one.

Cookie's has a huge selection of items for kids: from school uniforms(and really reasonable- polos from $3.99!), to outerwear and accessories. I had excellent customer service and really fast shipping. I would definitely shop through their site again.

One of you will win a North Face backpack!

Back-to-school: Eco-friendly Lunch Box Giveaway

My oldest starts full-day kindergarten at the end of the month. Instead of having him buy school lunches, I plan on packing his lunch. But, already, the idea of making sure that his lunch is packed every day is stressing me out. Making sure the sandwich doesn't get squished, not wanting to have to use tons of different tupperware containers, or waste lots of plastic bags, I wanted a different solution.

Then, I found EasyLunchboxes.com, who sent me a set of their EasyLunchbox containers and a carrying bag to review.

The simple two piece EasyLunchbox container: The bottom has three compartments to hold an entree or sandwich and two side dishes. The fitted lid (which comes in 4 colors) covers all three compartments at once. No more squished sandwiches, mismatched plastic container pieces to keep track of or wasteful baggies. Fits perfectly inside the roomy EasyLunchbox custom carrying bag. And there is still plenty of room to throw in an extra snack or two, whole fruit, perhaps a thermos of soup, drink and ice block. Flexibility is key, and since so many different things can fit, no matter what menu you choose to include, it packs easily and quickly. It's amazing how much faster, greener and easier lunch box packing is with the EasyLunchbox system.

One of you will win a set of EasyLunchbox containers and a carrying bag in your choice of color(black, dark red, olive, aqua, or purple).

Back-to-School Giveaway: U*neaks Shoes

Shoe shopping is always a part of back-to-school shopping. Feet have grown, or shoes have gotten worn out over the summer as kids have played.

U*neaks patented customizable footwear are sneaker style shoes with side clear panel windows and specially designed socks that allow kids to continuously customize their shoes by simply changing their socks. Pair the shoes with any of U*neaks’ double-sided decorated socks for footwear that’s fun and chock full of personality.

I love the idea of being able to get many different looks with just the change of a pair of socks! Really helps to stretch the back-to-school budget. My 5 year-old likes picking which socks he's going to wear and which side is going to show. Like these below, where one side of the socks has all sorts of sports and the other has different cars.

The sizes range from an 8 to a size 3. Shoes are $34.99 and two-sided socks are $3.99.  U*neaks has a special arrangement with Shoebuy.com whereby my readers can receive free shipping, free returns and a 10% discount on U*neaks by simply clicking on THIS link  or entering the coupon code UNEAKS at checkout.

One of you will win a pair of U*neaks shoes and two pairs of socks! That's four different looks. US only.

Back-to-School Giveaway: Magnetic Responsibility Chart by Melissa and Doug

I try to give my boys chores or work on different habits with them. As a former teacher, I love charts to keep track of these things. I love the visual for the kids- reminders as to what they have to do as well as a way for them to see how they are doing.

My Precious Kid, which has a variety of child safety and baby gear products, sent me a Melissa & Doug Responsibility Chart, valued at $19.99.  Melissa & Doug always have quality products and this one is no exception.

You can hang this on the wall and pick from 25 pre-printed chores or values that you want to work on for the week. Things like "put toys away" or "stop whining." There are also 2 that you can customize and come up with your own goal for the week.

I like mixing them up, with some that will be very easy for my child to meet(like "take a bath") and some that will be challenging(like "don't use bad language" since 5 has been the potty-mouth stage for us. G-rated potty-language, but still things that I don't want to hear).

If he meets his goal of having a set number of smiley faces at the end of the week, he gets a prize.  Right now, he's working toward a swim night, with just Mom and Dad(no brothers!).

You could really use some of the most basic responsibilities/goals even with 3 year-olds. Though, there are some "older" chores, like doing homework, loading the dishwasher, and taking out trash.

One of you can win your own Melissa & Doug Magnetic Responsibility Chart. Though, I do want to let you know that My Precious Kid has a free giveaway for new parents that you can check out HERE.

Back-to-School Giveaways: Dry Erase Monthly Calendar

Once school is back in session, it's more important than ever to stay organized! School projects, special days, practices, classes, etc. So much going on!

Personally, I love using a dry erase calendar to keep my family organized. That way, I can see what we have coming up and erase thing that happen to change, instead of just having scratched out appointments on a paper calendar.

Families With Purpose sent me one of their dry-erase monthly calendars to review. Families with Purpose is an organization dedicated to helping busy parents create a meaningful family life for themselves and their children. Through their articles, products, and resources, they empower families everywhere to take control of their family lives and live their lives with intention and purpose. And most importantly they advocate the little things in life, because they really do matter!

They have a variety of products and resources that can really help families!

Back-to-School : Looking for Sponsors!

Okay, at least I waited until July to start talking about Back-to-School!

But, really, it will be here before you know it!

Tammy from Tammy's Two Cents and I are teaming up to bring you a week of back-to-school related reviews and giveaways during the first week in August.

While we each have some lined up already, we'd love to get some more sponsors.

So, if you have a product that is related to back-to-school that you would like to have featured here, please contact me at thingsicantsaymichelle at gmail dot com.

Backpacks, school supplies, school clothes, organizers, maybe even a special treat for the moms to celebrate back-to-school time! I'm dying for a nap mat for my oldest. But, anything that could fit in with the back-to-school theme is welcome! Etsy shops are welcome, too!

For my readers, if you grab my Back-to-School button during the first two weeks of July to help spread the word, please leave a comment on this post and you'll get an extra entry on all of my giveaways!

The countdown to Back-to-School BEGINS!

Btw, if you didn't get a chance to visit some of the links on yesterday's Pour Your Heart Out, I highly recommend you checking them out! Also, there were a lot of linkers later in the day, so make sure you check those out, too! You'll find such heartfelt, honest, real posts there.
