Mom's Summer Guilty Pleasures

Pre-kids, my summer guilty pleasures included sleeping in, lazy days on the beach, and a outrageously expensive bikini.

Aaaah, life before kids, right?

But, there are still guilty pleasures to be found after kids!

1. The Ice Cream Truck: My boys provide me the best excuse ever to get excited when I hear the ice cream truck drive down the street. Can't deny them, now can I?

2.  Water gun fights:  A mama has to fight back, right? So much fun to scream like a kid and engage in a water battle.

3.  Sundresses: yes, this is about the millionth time I've pledged my love for sundresses. But, really, there is nothing better to wear in this heat. And it's easy to justify shopping the summer sundress sales.

4.  Beach books:  Not that I get to read them on the beach since I'm too busy chasing after my boys, but summer is the perfect time for light and fluffy reading.

5.  Mindless tv: True Blood and So You Think You Can Dance. And this summer, throw in White Collar, Covert Affairs, and Suits.

What are your guilty pleasures this summer?

Ahhh, I love this list. I too, would love love love to lay on the beach reading a book. Do you actually read books still or are you using the kindle? I've heard those are great for the beach because you don't have any glare.

I LOVE your list! Especially SYTYCD & sundresses & beach reading.

I would add fun toenail polish, using the humidity as an excuse to wear my hair in a ponytail (again), outdoor runs in the evening where I get to see fireflies.

Outrageously expensive or not, if I went the bikini route, I would most certainly go against The Other Golden Rule: "Keep America Beautiful"! LOL!

Happy 4th of July to you and yours!

Hard to fit in, but USA network provides my TV viewing for the summer..Burn Notice, Covert Affairs, Royal Pains, Necessary Roughness

I would brag that I watch two/three less kids during the summer, but events with my mother make that not even something I can enjoy this year.

My newest guilty pleasure are salted zucchini chips - I made a bunch in our dehydrator last night and they're so good I ate the entire thing - one jumbo zucchini's worth. You're saying, "hey, that's not guilty, that's healthy" BUT I dipped them all in ranch dip before I ate them. So there ya go :-)

Yes water fights with kids are fun, especially if they have been particually naughty that day- squirting them feels that much more cathartic ;)

I love, love, love So You Think You Can Dance. I've even just DVR'd them so I don't have to watch the zillions of commercials and can fast forward through the judges if they are boring me. Oh yeah. I don't vote, so it's the way to do it.

You should definitely do a linky ... what a great topic! My guilty summer pleasure is grilling. Nope, not me. Husband. It's a great time to get him to cook dinner while I have a glass of wine after Baby goes to bed! :)

Grilled food! I love not having to cook a damn thing from May til October. Sam Adams Summer Ale with a lemon wedge in a frosted glass: I craved that all last summer when I was pregnant. And like you, I'm all about sundresses.

My husband is like an 8 year old with the ice cream truck. He'll come booting through the house to catch it.

Because of you I now where my sundresses around the house as soon as I get home! Where!
Beach books and all those USA and TNT shows...we really do have a lot in common! I also engaged in a water gun fight with the boys recently, they kicked my butt. LOL

Love So You Think You Can Dance and I won't feel one iota guilty about it:) My guilty pleasure this summer is more Ben and Jerry's ice cream than I should admit to. Their flavors are so dang good and I actually have better portion control with those little pints.

Sleeping in, a freezer full of popsicles(sp) to share - that would do it. I never get to participate in water gun fights 'cause they commandere the guns - Sigh!

BTW - I read your sweet comment at JDaniel4sMoms place - and I'm just going to have to do a post in response. My boys would laugh their heads off if someone said their mom was "calm." That story was definitely a calm one - but I think maybe it is the search for the peace in the midst of the storm. I tell my boys to imagine what I would be like IF I didn't try to be the person God made me! LOL

Definitely sleeping in, smoothies, The Bachelorette, not wearing socks or jackets and a week of summer camp for my daughter. Yes, that is a guilty pleasure for ME.

About the ice cream truck...it comes around here EVERY DAY. I can't let them have it EVERY DAY, so it kinda drives me crazy.

Since my kids are old enough to fend for themselves, summers... when I don't have to be a human alarm clock for them... sleeping in is my guilty pleasure. If they can sleep until noon, I can at least sleep until 8am.

Fun list! We don't need the ice cream truck--I am usually so stocked in my freezer! This is our first complete day off of summer. I also love sleeping in, though 7am is still the latest my kids will ever let me. :)
