Making Something Special(?) for Halloween

I'm really not all that crafty.

I would love to be, but I'm really such a mess when it comes to things like that.

Plus, I'm scared to ever let my children anywhere near glue again.

So, when the challenge from the SITS Girls was to share something that we created for Halloween, I was a little stumped.

Do you know what we created this Halloween? Probably the worst memories for our kids. We created yet another thing they can blame us for later, when they are complaining to their therapists.

Because on Friday night, we took them to a pumpkin patch.

On a hayride.

A haunted hayride.

Yes. In the dark. Through the scary woods. With crazy monsters that jump out of the woods and JUMP UP ONTO THE WAGON AND SCREAM AT YOU.

Or, slam their chainsaw down on the hay bale next to you.

And yes, my boys are 5, 4, and 2.

Whose idea was this anyway?

Oh, that's right. Hubs, of course.

Though, my 2 year old thought it was hilarious and laughed the whole time. And my 4 year old took it all in stride, even when the Grim Reaper tapped him with his death sickle. Or whatever that thing is called. Until the chainsaw guy popped up right in his face. Then he freaked out.

My 5 year-old hated the whole thing. From the very beginning when the creepy voice warned as as we were going into the woods that we shouldn't enter. "Mommy, he said not to enter. Why don't we turn back?" And then he tried to boss all the monsters around, telling them to get off our wagon and leave us alone.

My kids were far from the only ones on the hayride and not even the youngest. The three year old beside us ended up on the floor of the wagon, with his blanket over his head.

I don't think that the haunted hayride will be something that we do anytime again until our boys are teenagers at least! Because I really don't need to create any more traumatic memories for my kids.

And after we frightened our kids- here's a treat for them, too:

This is a treat that I've made for several Halloween parties. Because kids get enough candy. Make peanut butter sandwiches with Ritz crackers, then insert pretzel sticks for legs. Attach raisins with pb for eyes. There you go- a cute Halloween spider treat.

Uber cute! I think I'd go with chocolate chips instead of raisins but I'm going to make them now!! Haha!

And oh my gosh. My senior year of high school I went to TWO haunted houses in one night and it was enough for a lifetime. I don't like those things!

Oh how cute!! I love it! I made pumpkin cookies (thank goodness for cookie cutters) since my son's school doesn't do Halloween (sigh). But this is so much more fun!

Haunted Hay Rides should have a sign that says "Teenagers Only"! Lol But the spider crackers are cute!

I swear to you, I didn't copy your idea of "not much of anything" for this post! I typed mine last night and hoped I'd get some inspiration today. LOL Nothing has come to me still aside from carving our pumpkins or taking a photo of one of my old scrap book pages. So funny that our posts are somewhat similar!

Super cute spiders!

And so funny about the hayride. My children hate to be scared. period. so I can image how they would deal with a haunted hayride. Luckily they are young and will bounce back!

OMG! My 2 1/2 year old was freaked just going to the Halloween store!! And he freaked because the teen put on a mask right in front of him, no less...so he knew it was her, but he didn't care! Ever hear a death scream in Walmart?? Yep...that would my kid....
sounds fun though!!

I made spiders like those with my 3rd graders when we read Charlotte's Web. We used oreos for the body and M & M's for the eyes. I like the crackers though!

My husband had that "what about a haunted house?" idea earlier this month. I quickly reminded him of the scary disney world ride that freaked her out last fall. He quickly remembered that I'm right.

I wish all discussions were that easy.

You never know how they're going to take stuff like that - hopefully they'll forget it!

I seriously considered taking mine on a haunted hayride...then I realized that they're TWO and I'm an idiot! Plus, it was freezing and I didn't have my heavy jacket on...problem solved.

Girl that is crafty in my book. Yesterday I tried making slim with the boys, thinking it would be cool. I followed the recipe and some how it turned out to be a watery, disgusting mess. I am so not the crafty type too!

I love the spider crackers. JDaniel was spooked by a scary mask when we went trick or treating. The haunted hayride would have done him in.

My 5 year old wanted to go to a haunted house this year. I didn't take him because I don't he really knew what one was.

I know it's their job to scare, but you think they would have taken it easy seeing the kids.

I love those spiders!

holy schit, we took the boys on one, too! Dark as hell and the scarecrows screamed and a spider climbed the side of the big azz wagon. My kids were crying. Until after -they BOTH wanted to do it again. jaysus./

That is a pretty cute and creative treat. I don't know that I could have come up with that. Sorry the hayride was scary. I can only imagine. I did giggle about the part where your five year old was asking you why you didn't turn back when it said not to enter. It is hard to argue with that logic.

Okay...even I could make those!!

That hayride would've scared the crap out of me. I guess I must be getting old or something because I no longer like to be scared!

Those spiders are cute! I think those would have been better than the ones that I made at Mini Me's school -- with a donut hole and a mini-donut stuck together, and pretzel sticks for legs and mini M&Ms for the eyes. Of course, I was THE top parent of the day for helping the kids make those... ;-)

Oh those are CUTE! I never did get around to doing anything cute this year.

I can't believe the hayride-- nice! I imagine the 2 YO doesn't get it yet. I think it's hilarious he laughed the whole time. The 5 YO? Scarred. :-)

and that ...my friend...is why I hate halloween....because being scared ranks right up there with Snakes...and I HATE SNAKES.

I would have been with the 3 yr old under the blanket....LOL

but those spiders look adorable, I'll have to try them for the buggas. :)

Oh my gosh! Because this didn't happen to me, it's hysterical. I am sure when your children are all in their twenties, this will be a very funny story. They may still not be able to go on a hay ride, but they'll be on to bigger and better things. Love the spider treats (and hope the older ones were able to sleep okay).
