Love is a Roller Coaster

Okay, okay, enough with the cheese. I'm just talking about what you do to connect with your spouse. Your favorite dates.

When Hubs and I don't make time to spend alone together, we start getting really cranky with each other.  The little things start to get on our nerves and it can seem like we don't like each other. So, it's important for us to make that time to get away together.

Hubs and I have always been a fan of roller coasters. We have gone on dates to different amusements parks. There's something about the adrenaline rush of exciting rides mixed with the lines where there's nothing else to do but talk that makes for a perfect date.

I think our first amusement park date was to Kennywood in Pittsburgh back when we were first engaged, about 8 years ago. We snuck away for a weekend at Busch Gardens for Hubs's birthday over 8 years ago. We stopped at Islands of Adventure on our way home from our honeymoon 7 years ago. Three years ago, we went to Cedar Point(my favorite amusement park, at not counting Disney with the kids) to celebrate my 30th birthday. And then, last weekend, we went to Kings Dominion to celebrate my 33rd birthday. Btw, I looked online for coupon codes before we went and we got our tickets for less than half of the regular admission rate.

I'm not counting the amusement parks that we have taken the kids to. While those are fun in their own way, we are too busy counting heads and keeping up with the kids to enjoy each other's company.

But, when we can get away alone, we get to have fun together. Remember what we like about each other.

We wait in lines and talk. There's nothing else to do in those lines anyway. Sometimes we tell stories from the last time we were at an amusement park, reminiscing about long ago- the time before kids. Or times we went as kids. Or we start planning our next trip. Or our excitement about what else we want to do in the park. Or yes, this is mean we talk about other people in line with us, trying to make the other laugh with snarky comments.  We don't talk about the boring day-to-day stuff. We get to know each other again.

And getting to ride roller coasters, eat fun park food, go on water rides: it all makes us feel like kids again. Like kids in love.

It's good for our marriage to have a day filled with both excitement and relaxation.

What is your favorite date activity with your spouse?

Wonder Woman Wannabe does a Re-ignite Date Night Series on Fridays. She's bloggged 47 different date activities, if you are looking for some ideas!

Btw, my laptop is off hopefully being fixed today. *Fingers Crossed* I hope to be back around on blogs like normal tomorrow.

I love amusement parks too - just haven't been to a non-kid one... well, since before the kids!

It is great to get some date nights - and a whole day at an amusement park is a great way to reconnect, you are right you have no other choice in those lines LOL

Hubby wants to spend his birthday at an amusement park without the boys. I'm looking forward to it as well.

When we have date nights we like to go window shopping, talk about possible future vacations...we'll eat, get scratch off lotto tickets.

We haven't had a date in a few months...it's time.

I love amusement parks. We visit one at least once a year. We're hoping to go to Great Adventure before the summer is out. We took our daughter to Sesame Place this week and it was fun to go as a family, but not as fun as a date activity.

My favorite date ever with the hubby was when we went to the fair for my birthday. He even got me to go on the ferris wheel with him even though I HATE ferris wheels. I'm a little sad we won't be able to do many rides at the fair this year since I'll be 7 months along by then. We're definitely going to go eat all the fair food though and catch a concert.

I love going on dates with the hubby! They usually involve going out for ice cream at some point.... Usually we're pretty laid back on our dates -- we save all the amazing ones for when we travel! My favorite date was last summer when we bought candy from a local vendor and ate it on the beach as we watched the sun set over the Baltic Sea. (Who knew Poland could be so romantic?)

I think it is a MUST to get away with your hubs without the little chickens around. I just need to take my own advice now. That is awesome that you got to do that together!!!!!

I bet it made you feel young like a kid again...remember all those teenagers that stand in the line, kissing and being silly...I bet that was what you and your hubs looked like! Super sweet!

First off Matt and I are "home date" pros! In terms of "going out" our favorite day was going to an auction (how weird is that). What we really love to do and what we do consistently is recreate together (not to be confused with procreating which we also enjoy!). We road bike, hike, rock climb, P90X ... being active is our favorite date (but we'd love roller coasters too if there was one near us. Closest thing we get is a carnival!).

Did some link loving on you today :)

We typically do dinner and a movie or maybe hit a local community theatre for a play. That's our old scene, how we met, so we usually know someone involved, too.

This weekend, we are taking the kids to his parents and spending the DAY at the art museum!! A nice, relaxing lunch and a day at the museum. Then we get the kids, have dinner with the 'rents, and back home for bedtime. We always focus on bedtime for date time... so I'm excited for an afternoon with my husband!

Neither hubs nor I are roller coaster people. He's terrified of heights, and the wheelchair is a fantastic excuse for me so I don't have to fess up to my fear of heights either. lol :)

My favorite date nights are when we go to museums or aquariums, things like that.

I consider a date something we do without Hayden - just Randy and I. We do "double dates" with other couples in which we go out to dinner. Randy and I also go out to dinner just the two of us twice a year - for our engagement anniversary and for our wedding anniversary. Another we like to do that maybe not be a "real date," but works for us is to watch a tv show together at night after we put Hayden to bed - it's an easy way to spend a bit of time together...

I'm sorry, the plumber turned off my water and then left in search of parts. So all I can do is sit here thinking about using the bathroom.

We don't live near any amusement parks that are within a four-hour round trip. We are, however, living in the Finger Lakes wine country. I love to go to a winery, sit and have a glass of wine, and just talk without any interruptions. Not very exciting, but with my husband working out-of-state, it's amazing how much I miss just talking to him.

We are off to Disney in November can't wait to get my son on some great rides since he will be big enough for all of them!

This post really hit home for me! I recently made a HUGE decision in my life to go from being a lawyer (who was going to take her bar tomorrow) to becoming a teacher. Part of the reason for this is because I hadn't been to the park with my husband in months (our favorite activity together). It's important to balance things in life and have your favorite moments together. Being cranky is NEVER fun!! Well...sometimes the make up time after being cranky is fun. ; )

Well we're still a young couple but we've been living together for a year and the crank definitely comes into play more often than it should. When I can't take anymore of him or he can't take anymore of me, we dance. I know that sounds lame but I'll youtube some ridiculous song (one of our faves was 'love machine') or turn the tv station of radio on and shimmy around the room.

We do this in the car too,, more often than any rational set of adults should

So lately, we crawl into bed and watch a movie on our computer. It's no AMC theater, but there's no one around to stare at us if we make out and I can walk around in my undies.

If only I had some Twizzlers.

You are absolutely right, without that one on one time you get cranky with one another I think because communication, just talking and having a good time together is so necessary to remembering what is important and what is not. So good for you, I think you have it figured out. Something we are working on but I am hoping we might finally have a solution.

BDC and I are big Foodies. We find obscure places to go and eat. We will have a couple of drinks at the bar right near the movie theater we like to go to after dinner. We sit at the bar and make up stories (outlandish over the top stories) about the other patrons. It's sort of a one up competition of sorts. We both try to outdo the other on how insane the stories can get. It's soooooo much fun.

Aw, thats a great date idea. I live about 2 minutes from Kennywood, and I've been eying it every time I drive past.

We love going to the Southside or Squirrel Hill, and walking around in the early evening before the little shops have closed. After we've explored the shops, we find someplace to eat dinner (I love trying ethnic food in little family owned restaurants), and then maybe a little ice cream shop. That's my very favorite date.

Oh my this is so crazy that you posted this because I FINALLY scheduled a weekend getaway with Hubby and I was planning on going to the amusement park we go to almost every summer. Pretty sure the only time we've missed is when I've been pregnant. BUT HE DIDN'T WANT TO GO! Said he had enough of that one (and there aren't any others around here.) It ended up working out though. I made some other awesome plans. I seriously think the last time we had true alone time was over a year ago. PATHETIC! I agree, it's essential, which is probably why I've been wanting to rip his head off with my bare hands lately.

Oh, I love this. It's like being kids again! We sometimes go to the park on our own and just sit around or get on the swings and it's just so relaxing. You are right, couple time avoids cranky time BIG TIME.
I am stopping by from the Lady Bloggers. It's my first time here and I am enjoying your blog very much.
