What I Meant to Say: Foot in Mouth Edition

The awesome Chief started a new blog carnival last week. All the things that you really meant to say to someone, instead of being polite or the bigger person or whatever sort of nicey-type-thing, you can now let it rip and tell us what you really meant to say.

Taking a slightly different approach to this this week. Since I have a tendency to open my mouth and say what I'm thinking, I don't have that many examples of where I bit my tongue and then spill what I really meant on here.

So, I'm going to tell you about a time when I let my mouth work ahead of my brain.

Unfortunately, it happens to me a lot.

I didn't mean it the way that it came out.

But, here's what happened:

I was at my older brother and sil's house.

Sil, whom I love and adore and couldn't imagine a better wife for my brother than her.

I call their house and ask to speak to her, not my brother.

Sooo, we're watching The Biggest Loser.

And my sil sighs, "I wish I could be on The Biggest Loser."

And I open my HUGE mouth and say, "You totally should apply! You'd be awesome!"

Now, what I should have said was: "No way, they'd never take you for that show!"

But, what I meant was: My sil is awesome. She has this bubbly personality, yet is a straight-shooter. She's cute as a button, too. If she was on there, everyone would root for her. You'd want her to stay around until the end because she is your favorite on the cast for the season.

But, of course, how she took it was that I think that she needs to lose an insane amount of weight.

Yikes.

Foot in mouth.

For those of you who actually have a brain to mouth filter, you can use this as your chance to say what you really meant. Or if you suffer from foot-in-mouth disease, you can make it right now, like I did. Head on over to Chief's and join in!

Stopping by from SITS. Hahahaha No really, you posted just above me on SITS so I ran over to read this post.

eek. I hope your SIL is a good sport and has already forgiven you for that one.

I once totally called out a college roommate to another roommate w/o realizing she was in the room nextdoor and heard everything.

What a great story! I'm sorry that happened, though--and I totally would have said the same thing probably...

Thank you also for your sweet comments on my blog yesterday. It helps a lot to know my bloggy friends are there for me.

My brain usually works, but sometimes my mouth likes to take the lead. The last time I didn't think first, well let's just say it was pretty bad.

I see that lots of us have that "mouth speaks before brains tells it to" syndrome.

I am sure your SIL didn't take it as an insult. If she's the way you described her then I'm sure she understood.

It can be kind of hard to say things even when you mean it on a positive note when it comes to someone who is sensitive about their weight. I've never thought too much about the weight issue seeing how I've never had a weight issue, but my close friend has one and it's really put the thought into my head due to her having such a hard time with it.

I say things All The Time that I didn't mean the way they sounded. Which is another reason I'm Always apologizing!

OMG - Okay, I NEED to know how this story ends!! Please reveal!

Also, you are GENIUS if you are telling me that you started this blog BUT DID NOT TELL YOUR FRIENDS OR FAMILY that you're doing it!?!?!? That was the best thing you could have ever done. Me? I thought it would help to grow the site/blog faster (which it did, but spreading the word to my family/friends), but MY BEST MATERIAL IS MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS (oh, and NEIGHBORS!!!).

Love connecting with you. It meant so much that you visited my blog... I'll definitely be back for more!!! Please keep in touch! (PS - as you prob. know, I have 3 boys as well (and a girl... who's the oldest). Those with 3 kids needs to stick by each other!)

Ha! I totally do stuff like this. One time I was buying a sweatshirt for my sister in law and I called her and said, "I tried it on and it fits me fine...except for through the arms, its kinda big so I think it will fit you okay."

She busts out laughing and I thwacked myself on the forehead. At least she knew what I meant. We're good like that. I love my SIL...she says God wanted me to marry my husband because I was God's gift to her (our hubbies are brothers). I'm the only other sane person in the family (according to her).

Yikes! I do stuff like that too .... for example, my hubby's best friend gets engaged to a girl they all knew in High School. They were in FL and we never got a chance to meet up ... until hubby's bf's grandmother passed. It was a long day, but we got to spend a lot of time together and get to know each other. When we got back, I posted on her FB page, "that was great! we should do that again!" meaning hang out not have a funeral! Foot in mouth for me too!
