Arrested, ME?

Last week, I was remembering not-fondly about the time that there was a warrant out for my arrest.

Goody-two-shoes to the nth degree.

Okay, so maybe I wouldn't go that far.

I do like to drink, I tend to call people motherbitches, I'm impatient, snotty at times, and irritable.

But, when it comes to things that you could actually get arrested for....

Nope, not me. No freaking way. (Except for maybe that one skinny dipping incident, but I didn't get busted for that one and really, how bad is that? Only I would think of that as something horrible.)

But, yes, I did have a warrant out for my arrest at one point.

What did I do? How did that happen?

Well, it actually answers Supahmommy and MommyBrain's All about MEme Monday question: Tell us about a time you got pulled over by the po-lice.

A Sunday in October 2007.

I was driving us to church. I can't remember why on earth I was driving, since Hubs was in the car. But, anyhangover....

I see the lights start flashing behind me and my heart jumps into a panic. I was NOT speeding. I DO NOT SPEED.

And on that particular stretch of road, by not speeding, I mean I don't even do 5 over(that doesn't count as speeding elsewhere, right?), because there is nothing else for the police to do right there than to pull people over. There's NOTHING there. Which is probably why most people fly down that road who don't realize that the police hang out there all the time. No joke, I once saw police cars in 4 different hiding spots along that road within less than 2 miles of each other.

I won't tell you the whole story about all the waiting and the officer's comments and all that crap because this post really doesn't need to be a whole book.

But, I had been pulled over because my registration had expired.

I had no idea. I knew my sticker was expired, but Hubs had told me two months before that he was going to take care of getting it renewed on time and that he'd get my sticker to me later, but that it was fine.

I thought he'd already done it and just hadn't given me the sticker.

Um, no.

Hubs takes my ticket and says he'll take care of it.

The next month, I get a notice in the mail, saying that I still need to pay for this ticket or a warrant for my arrest will be issued.

Again, I give it to Hubs, he says he'll take care of it.

Then, right before Christmas, I receive a warrant for my arrest in the mail.

Because Hubs still hadn't paid my freaking ticket.

I call him, in tears, rambling on and on about how he should forget about buying me anything for Christmas, I just don't want to get arrested and what if they came for me and no one else was here with the kids and they had to take them away, and I have an arrest on my record and what if I ever want to go back to teaching and....

Okay, I didn't handle it very well, at all.

I can't help it, it freaked me out.

So, there's my answer to Supah and Mommybrain's question and how I almost got arrested. I would just like to state for the record, that I've never gotten a ticket for anything else- not even pulled over for speeding.

Have you entered my first giveaway yet?

Ooooh, that must have been very scary! I was stopped once for a making a u turn somewhere, and the copper turned me to blubber! I was really young then, but they still make me nervous! Since this isn't a prison post I guess everything turned out for the best! LOL!

I wish I could say that I have never gotten a ticket but I would be totally lying. I would be the same way...except maybe the hubs wouldn't be alive by the time I was done. He does put things off alot too. He will say something like "I will take care of that tomorrow" and then a few weeks later I find it in his car or get a notice in the mail where he has put it off and not gotten around to it! They can be so frustrating! ;0)

I totally understand the fear regarding arrests and wanting to teach. That fear is what kept me out of the bars underaged in college. All 5 of my roommates got arrested for that one night. Glad I just went to the keg party that night.

I was thinking that you should've told Hubs that you were going to go to jail for something much worse than not paying your ticket if HE DIDN'T PAY YOUR TICKET THIS INSTANT. ;-)

I have a friend in a similar situation... she got pulled over for rolling through a stop sign in my neighborhood. And she didn't pay the ticket. And didn't show for court. And didn't show for her second date. And now there's an outstanding warrant... and she chooses to take NO ACTION on getting it resolved. I don't know how long she can continue to ride it out... it worries me, though.

Guess this why I take care of everything. If I left it up to my husband, this is what would happen to me, and I would of flipped out.

Trust me, I just saved his butt this morning from getting arrested for missing Jury Duty, he forgot to follow instructions yet again.

The DMV doesn't mess around anymore...and with computers now it takes no time for them to catch up to you. My husband switched our insurance DMV did not get notified suspended my registration for not having insurance and then I got a letter that they were going to put warrant out for my arrest (even after I knew they had proof of my new insurance) So there system is still not the best. Glad it all worked out not a laughing matter.

Kinda been there, mine swore up and down for 6 months that he mailed the right papers to OR when we lived in CA for our OR plates and that his mom just hasn't sent them back to us yet. Fine no biggie until he gets pulled over with all 5 of us at the time. The cop wanted to flat bed the truck to the impound lot on the side of the freeway, issued hubbie a $500 tickets in speeding, expired reg, and no proof of insurance. We had NO ONE to come get us and the kids that day. I truly think the cop didn't impound our truck because he felt bad for the verbal lashing hubbie was getting from me for procrastinating and lying. He even told hubbie he better make up for this when he left. lol

My husband did that once, but not with the car's registration. I gave him some bills to drop at the post office. The idiot left them in the glove compartment and forgot about them. I didn't find out until I got collection agencies letters. I called the companies all angry arguing with them that I had sent the payments on time.

Hubby claimed that he did. Then I was cleaning the truck, and I found them. He spent the night on the couch.

I got arrested in the B*tch as# town of Shrewbury , MA about 8 years ago- my reg. sticker was expired and I had no idea. Same thing. But I GOT arrested (the town had the choice to arresst or order you to court). ARRESSTED. I was horrified. I cried so hard , and they took away my baseball hat, sweatshirt string, and shoelaces in my sneakers, that I probably looked like a crack addict by the time I appearded in court that afternoon. Of course, NOTHING came of it- it was all paperwork. >sigh<
