WIMTS: Motherbitch Edition

Soooo, here's what happened:

Despite my bad experiences with mommy groups, I decided to go ahead and offer to host an event for the group.

There are often game nights and I love games, so I thought that would be fun.

And, if I'm hosting, then I'm forced to talk to people, instead of silently mocking them while I sip a cocktail in the corner and be one of the only people who actually eats. Why do some women feel like it's a competition as to who can eat the least amount of food before they proclaim that they are stuffed? I not only lose, I don't even try to play. Not fun.

Okay, back to the story.

So, I offer to have a game night, with some fun games, including Just Dance, since you know that I love that. You have to loosen up and be silly when you play, plus it's something different from what they usually do, so I thought why not.

Games, drinks, food, fun.

But, the very first person to respond to my post about it asks if I could make this a family night because her husband would want to come, too.

And then four more moms reply after that, agreeing that it would be so much fun for this to be a family event.

Um, excuse me?

What I said: While dh would probably love to host a poker game here some night for the guys, I can't see doing all of that on the same night with all the kids here, too.

What I Meant to Say: What the hex? This event is in my home and you are wanting me to add your spouses and all of your kids to the mix? How is that going to be a fun night? All the dhs sitting around, eating my food, while all the moms run around chasing their kids all around my house. And I did mention that this was at night so MY kids will be in bed, asleep. This does not sound like fun to me, at all. It will leave me with a big freaking mess to clean up from all your kids running around and will defeat the purpose of my suggesting this night in the first place. No freaking thank you.

I haven't mentioned it again. I'm done.

Dance Party is moved to my blog and you're all invited!

See post below for details and join in!

Good for you for not going along with it! That would have been a disaster...the ONLY thing that would have made it a success would be copious amounts of alcohol!

Glad you said no, why should you change YOUR party! The point of having it is to be free from the cares of mommyness/wifeyness ;)

Wow, I would of never thought of adding that as a suggestion. Do they host family nights or is it game night for the mommies. Sheesh

I'm glad you stood your ground.

I had a friend who wanted her husband with her all the time. Like she was a toddler and he was her blankie. She pulled that kind of crap on me too. Very annoying.

I've never been in a moms group so maybe I'm wrong, but I thought these events were for moms to do something without kids or spouses? Good job for saying no!

Love your new background!

You just can't win, huh? You go out of your way to swallow it down and extend a hand and then they ask for more. Way to stay strong, Shell! And as a winner of my family's gluttony bowl, I can proudly say that I would totally blow those gals out of the water with all the food I'd wolf down in front of 'em!!!

Hmmmm....Sandbox syndrom...really...dontcha know cats shit in sandboxes?

I'm amazed at the audacity of others. I shouldn't be. I've lived long enough to see a helluva lot (but NOT long enough to see it all. I'm not THAT old). If someone wanted a Family Fun night - let them host.

I don't blame you. I'd be done too!

Just Dance....I'm working on hubs...we don't have a Wii but my sister does....I REALLY want to participate!

Loved this - "All the dhs sitting around, eating my food, while all the moms run around chasing their kids all around my house."

Exactly!!

Sounds like a blast. What a social ma-roon who suggested embracing the entire clan.

You need to move to Texas. Girls Night Out is a state passtime around here.

I found the cure to this. You move into a tiny 800 square foot apartment and only have room for a tiny loveseat. This way, you never have to have company over. Works like a charm.

uugghh! That's great that you stood your ground!! I can imagine having all those children running around at bedtime. HOw annoying! I belong to a SAH Moms group. The competition is always about whose husband makes the most money! urrgghhh!

My husband would kill me if I invited him to a supposed-to-be ladies night. Talk about feeling uncomfortable!
And why the H are women afraid to eat? I stuff my face at those parties and am not afraid to admit it! That is what food is for, right? Motherbitches.
I don't have wii but I will be cheering on your dance contest from the sidelines!

February 3, 2010 at 10:50 AM
Blogger mintifresh said...

That's just weird. Why on earth would they want their husbands and kids there for something like that? You're right, the husbands will eat all the food while the kids destroy the house! Not fun at all!

Wow. I mean, really ... it takes a lot of nerve to pull something like that when you've been invited to an event. Do what you want when you're hosting. But when you're invited, the appropriate response is only, 'sure, what can I bring?' ...

How rude!! Do you ever have family night's at any of the other houses? Sounds to me like they all don't want to have family nights at their houses, for all of the reasons that you mentioned. So hey, let's take advantage of you & fulfill all of our dreams, without having to deal with the mess!! I wouldn't go to any more mommy things if I had to be with pretentious people like that. NO THANKS!!!

How rude! I've always had bad luck with those mom groups too. Hate 'em. So I wish I had that Wii game, I'd so be in. My kids crack up when I bust some moves in front of them. My 6 year old usually tells me to stop it.

a)I love your use of the word motherbitches. I am not a mother yet, and I hope to not be a motherbitch,, although I doubt it will happen cuz I'm way to 'whatever' about most things. While I might have turned into a mother'friendly' based on my hs self,, I'll probably be closer to a mother'hippie'... when and if I get there.

b) What is wrong with people where they feel its okay to invite more people than were invited. The invite was for you,, not your husband or bf or child or stepchild for crissake.. I wanted to spend time with you and your rude actions make me wonder why I like you at all.

hate it..

PET PEEVE!

If someone else is kind enough to host/plan/organize/pay for an event, then I'm going to say, "Thank you so much for doing this! Can I help or bring anything?"

I will not say, "Can we do this instead? I know you've already gone to all the trouble of something else, but I'd really rather do this."

Motherbitches indeed!

Good for you sticking to your guns! I am such a pushover I would have said yes and dealt with the chaos. I read your Dance Off post and I would totally do it if I had that game. I think I need to get it though cause it sounds like it would work up a sweat. I tried Cardioke yesterday as my workout, by Billy Blanks JR and his wife, it was hilarious! I looked like a retard on crack dancing around trying to keep up with the Cardioke Slide. If you have Comcast on Demand you should watch it just for the laugh! The whole time I kept thinking to myself that this would make some great video, lol!

I have a friend who is recently divorced - and her hubby is too mentally ill/depressed to deal with their son.

EVERY TIME we invite her somewhere she asks if it is adults only or can ____ come along. While I love and adore ____ NO! No he cannot come to the adult party where we are all drinking.

NO! No he cannot come to the BAR!

It has been about 9 months since the divorce and she gets summers off as a school teacher...you would think she would WANT a break to go out and socialize with girlies who have known her since she was 18 and now she is 41...we GET her.

I wonder how I say that to her??? ;)
