Snow in Coastal Carolina

Did hell freeze over?

Because this never happens.

Wait, that would mean that I think I live in hell.

I don't.

Okay, but it's still really rare for there to be any amount of snow here on the beaches of NC.

My very first year here, 10 years ago, as an uninformed former Pennsylvanian, I woke up one morning to what we Yankees call "frost" on the ground.

Even the most hopeful school-hating child in PA wouldn't  have bothered to check to see if there was a school delay.

So, I headed on in to teach.

Bwahahahaha!

Yeah, school was CANCELLED.

For FROST.

So, when we got 6 inches of snow here this past weekend, it was a huge deal.

We quickly went from this:

To this:
To THIS:
But still gotta love that view:

I've never seen so many snowmen as were made this weekend.

I guess it's because people around here don't usually get the chance to make them. So, when there's snow, everyone makes one.

Including right on the beach.

Here are Monkey and Bear, posing with some snowmen right out back of our house.

At first, it's just a typical kids with snowmen pic...

But, notice what is right in the background!
Um, yes, those are socks on their hands. It' not like we usually need gloves around here!
Thanks, Supahmommy for reminding me that I could use socks or I might have made the boys stay inside.

But, do you know what's fabulous about snow around here?

It snowed on Saturday and it was gone by Monday.

And we're supposed to hit 60 today.

That's my idea of winter.

Click the button to see other people who can't just post a pic and shut up about it.

Dance Contest: videos posted tomorrow! Let me know if you have one!
C'mon: It's FUN!

Look how tall your snowmen are!!

I love how they have sand through the snow and of course the ocean in the background!

Quit bragging that it is already gone! I had 3 more inches on my car this morning and a couple more inches are coming today.... Waaaaaa!!!!

Love the snowmen and sock-gloves. However, I am totally jealous that your snow went away. We got snow weeks ago and it's still on the ground, plus a few more inches that have fallen since then. Ugh, I'm sick of it.

Bwaaa ha ha ha...the comment about frost cracked me up. Living in northern Michigan I know exactly what you are talking about. Conditions have to be pretty severe for them to cancel school.

How exciting for your kids to have a weekend of snow---wish ours only lasted a weekend :) Love their snowmen---love the ocean in the background even better...

Have a great day!

I'm envious of your backyard beach! That's one of the things I miss the most about being in Jersey. Ohio has nothing like that to offer. We're getting snow-slammed here, too. I've never seen it this bad.

Those pictures are great!

Those pictures are great! I mean where else do you have snowmen with sand on them and the beach as a background?
The socks on the hands are just too funny! I don't know if I would have thought of that.

I think this year is unusually cold winter for everybody. I live in Florida now and I don't think our highs have reached in the 70's for almost a month. It's crazy. If we're getting so many freezes, I'd rather see snow!!!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Wow. I used to go to the beaches in coastal NC multiple times per year when I was a kid, as late as Oct./Nov. because my dad needed his fishing fix, and I remember how cold it could be in a swimsuit. But snow? Never got to see that. Thanks for sharing :)

That they throw their gloves wherever and they get lost and so then we resort to socks.. It's even better if Imake them wear 2 different socks out of the can't find it's mate basket lol

You know the reason they cancel school, right? It's because they don't want the coastal kids to miss out on their once in a blue moon opportunity to make a snow ball! Ya'll got more snow than we did and I live in view of the mountains!!

Oh man, I grew up in Anchorage, Alaska, so it's hilarious to be down in the lower 48 and experience "snow" and the reactions.

Tell me, once it began to snow, were all the bread and milk gone from the stores? Because, apparently here in Alabama, that's a precious commodity.

Interesting snowmen...never seen snowmen with sand. I am sure my daughter would be excited if school was cancelled because of frost. If we get 5 feet here, they make us snowshoe to the bus. Dang! I wish my sled dogs worked better...it about kills me...LOL!

Great pictures! I love the snowmen with the ocean in the background. I only wish our snow would go away as quickly!
