Blog Friend Feature: Unexplained x2

There's not a whole lot today's Blog Friend Feature won't say. I think that's how I got a bloggy crush on her. I love honesty. And her sense of humor: you have to have a good sense of humor if you try to talk your doctor into giving you a tummy tuck even when you are in for a procedure that has nothing to do with your tummy.

Rebecca at Unexplained x2 was diagnosed with unexplained infertility and then had boy/girl twins through IVF.  She's sarcastic and open and a great blog friend. I totally adore her...even though she'd give me hell for dropping my kids off at school in my bathrobe.

When Shell asked me to be her BFF, I was shocked. Being my best friend can be kind of exhausting because I say exactly what is on my mind. Then I got to thinking and came up with the fact that maybe that’s why she picked me! Maybe she likes my ability to say what everyone else is thinking!

If you know me, you know there’s not a lot that I “can’t” say…it pretty much all comes out of my mouth whether you want it or not.

So, here are the things that I love to say:
  • Ladies, when you leave the house, please put on some damn makeup. If you don’t, it’s like you’ve given up. Give a little effort…for the rest of us, please! After all, we’re the ones who have to look at you!

  • Take a leap of faith and buy a decent bra. Your poor little puppies shouldn’t be so far down that you need to move them out of your way to properly fasten your seat belt. I am still shocked that after Oprah’s bra revolution that we’re still having these conversations! Hoist them up…after all, if your boobs look bigger, your tummy will look smaller!

  • If you’ve worn it to bed, don’t wear it out of the house…jammies are not proper attire for anywhere but your own house…certainly not the grocery store!

  • Don’t complain about what you look like in pictures…in 10 years you’ll want this version of yourself back.

  • Try really hard not to compare yourself to everyone else…most people lie anyway.

  • Infertility sucks. So try really hard not to ask people you barely know when they’re having kids, that it’s time to start trying for a second, or tell them when/how to have sex (every other night so I’ve been told a like zillion times)…chances are they’re already on it (so to speak) and don’t feel like discussing it with you. Either that or you may have just sent them to the car in hysterics because they had just gotten their period that morning. It’s none of your business.

  • That being said, please don’t call your children miracles…it’s a mistake and will not serve them well down the road when they figure out that they’re not actually miraculous, but human like the rest of us.

  • Smile at each other. I feel that women avoid eye contact with each other and I don’t understand this phenomenon. Why do we hate each other?

  • When you start to feel jealous of someone, take a moment to realize that someone else is jealous of your life. It puts it all into perspective.

  • If all else fails, remember, again, that most people lie anyway.

  • Do something nice for yourself…you deserve it.

  • Do something nice for your husband…chances are, he deserves it.

  • Your kids will get nice stuff for the rest of their life…ignore them while you’re doting on yourself!

  • Enjoy your life…it’s the only one you’ve got!

Don't you just love her?  Please leave Rebecca some comment love here and then go follow her blog Unexplained x2.

Thanks Shell!!! Yes, I would give you hell for the whole bathrobe thing, but I'd do it in a loving way...over coffee...in your closet picking out something more decent! LOL

Thanks for loving me! Mwah!

What a marvelous BFF! I'm in love with this list, yep I'd probably make out with it a little bit if I could. Off to visit her!

God I love this list.
Love the miracles thing - too funny. I have actually met those children at 5 who do believe they are miracles, I can't imagine what they will be like at 16!
And you totally got me with the "do something nice for your husband". Yeah he does get on my nerves all the fricking time, but he probably does deserve it!
Shell - this is probably one of my favorite BFF posts!

I agree 100%!! Especially the pajama pants! Awhile back, I saw a woman in the grocery store wearing fleece Mickey Mouse print pajama pants and slippers. Really????

Now I'm off to go find another mom to smile at!

Safe to say I live by most of these! Especially leaving the house looking descent. I could never wear my pajamas out or leave the house without makeup! I gotta look good just to walk outside...even if I'm not going anywhere!

I so agree on the asking about having (more) kids. We had infertility issues with #2 and I was so tired of people asking me about it and offering suggestions. I wanted to scream "SHUT UP" at everyone.

I like almost all of this, and it made me laugh. I don't agree with the make-up part though, thats kind of ridiculous. There are tons of reasons for not wearing make-up that don't mean we've "given up."
I especially agree on the infertility part though! I haven't been through it (fingers crossed, we just started trying this month) but I can imagine it would suck. From the day my husband and I got married I've been unable to say I'm not feeling well without 10 people jumping in asking if I'm pregnant, and that does nothing more than remind me that I'm not (and that I was months away from our official "start trying" date)!

Great list! I must admit I leave the house without my makeup a lot. But I often do regret it as I run into someone I know. And yes women need to be nicer to each other.

Agree, agree, agree...but for the makeup comment. I don't want to look at other folks without makeup, granted, but I think I look pretty damn good (without my contacts). I tell myself that it just shows my inner confidence to go out without my "face", which I have always done from time to time...and much more often since having kiddos. Hahahaha!!!

Brand new mommy's are exempt from the makeup, pj's etc rules right? I mean jammies may be the only thing I own right now that isn't covered in spit up. I could go for pampering myself a little bit though.

And a big nod of agreement to keeping your mouth shut when it comes to infertility. If one more person had told me to just relax I probably would have gotten locked up for murder.

Now I'm off to become a follower!

I'm going to have to go check her out. I like the way she thinks. Except I only put on make-up if I have to get out of my car. And seriously, you would be shocked at how many people think it's okay to talk to you about sex, when you are trying to conceive.

I am going to go check her.

But I am hoping people will ignore her beauty advice so I can look good by comparison to all those un made up ladies in bathrobes.....who I will now smile at while making eye contact!

Thanks for introducing another BFF.

My favorite is about the pictures. That's what my mom says every time she takes a driver's license picture. Until she takes the next one four years later.

This was funny and insightful. Something is niggling my brain, what is it ...? Oh yes, I told a friend exactly what I thought this morning and it didn't go that well. sigh.

Rebecca, I remember you told me this when I was jealous of all my friends whose kids were sleeping through the night and you are RIGHT - they are also jealous of other things...

Awww, I totally love Rebecca!!! She always delivers a healthy dose of honesty with a side of sarcasm and humor...my kind of girl!!

The one about infertility....oh yeah, I've so been there too. People have some nerve asking such personal questions. But I personally loved the one lady who asked me if I needed help getting pregnant. I knew she meant "medical help" but I said, "Yeah, my husband might have helped for about....uh, maybe 5 minutes". No more questions from her after that!

Great list Rebecca! Of course I completely violated the no make-up and wearing what I wear to bed outside the house. Hey I sleep in my yoga pants! I'm sure that doesn't make it any better.

But I especially like the one about smiling at each other. I like this one a lot! :)

A friend of mine told me many years ago that if a woman has any self-respect at all, she should at least throw on some mascara before she leaves the house. I was 15. He was my choreographer. I still think of him every time I forgo makeup---which I usually only do if I'm going somewhere to work out!
