Blog Friend Feature: Hating April Fools

When I asked this week's Blog Friend Feature to pretty please be featured this week, I wasn't thinking that today is April Fools Day.  And I really didn't know that she hates this day!  But, hopefully, you all will show her lots of love and make her have a better day!

Julie blogs at DutchbeingMe, which is the type of blog that when you are reading it, you feel like you are chatting with a friend.  Which is why I, too, squealed when I got to meet Julie IRL. I know you'll love her, too.

Happy April Fools.

Believe it or not, I actually hate this day. It’s really for a number of good reasons – as well as a couple of well, silly “ideas”. So it’s kind of funny and ironic that I’m Shell’s BFF today. I think she’s trying to make this day better for me {even though she may have just learned all of this stuff about me. :)}

Don’t get me wrong, I’m *THRILLED* that Shell chose me. I mean really?! Little ole me?! I couldn’t be more flattered. Shell was one of my very first bloggy friends when I started finding other blogs to read a couple of years ago – and I’ve adored her ever since (as have so many others.) And when I got to meet her at Blissdom this year… I may have squealed a little bit. For reals.

But anyway… back to what I was going to say about today. My dark day if you will. (And for those that watched Gilmore Girls, you know what I’m talking about.) :)

The dislike for this day has actually been rooted much further back in my history than just the last 15 years... like you know, elementary school when all the kids would tell stories and make up things. I’m a fairly gullible person, so I tend to believe the stories about all kinds of different things and then learn later that they are not true. Not to mention the disappointment I feel at that point… especially if it was something that I wanted to do or participate in! {And, um… this totally doesn’t happen to me anymore. *Ignore me turning into Pinocchio as you read this.*}

So it only take a certain number of times that people promise you things – and then you realize that it’s April 1 – that you tend not to trust anyone on this day anymore. Nor do you know what to expect from those that have pulled “pranks”. Are they being sincere? Are they being honest? Can I trust them?

I’m sure you’ve been in that place before. The place where you want to trust that things will happen, but yet have that slight suspicion in the back of your mind that things might not go the way you expect. You – like me – hope that you aren’t led into a place where severe embarrassment will occur.

No matter what, if it’s April Fool’s Day or any other day of the year, disappointment can be found. Pranks will happen. Jokes will occur. It’s how we deal with them – whether laughter or tears – is how it will be remembered.

Please leave Julie some comment love here and then go follow her blog if you don't already!

Either I'm not very gullible or I have not met very good pranksters. I don't even think twice about April Fool's day.

*Knock on wood* I've never had anyone pull a big prank on me... just stupid little things. That said, I'm kind of glad today is a work day and I don't have any students! :)

I guess I don't really think too much about April Fools. Sad that some people have bad experiences with it though. :-(

Congrats on being featured!!

I don't think to much about April Fool's Day really. I actually can't remember the last time I played a prank on someone and vice versa.

This April 1st is a good one though because my sister in law is in labor! I can't wait for a new baby!

I've never had to endure a bad prank, but I don't really care for this day either. It seems kind of silly. I've never been much of a prankster either so maybe that's why I don't get it.

My 5 year old has turned this day into a week long event. I'm really getting tired of hearing him say "April Fools!".

The best prank (or worst if you're me) was when my parents screamed at me to get out of bed because I was late for school. They were so frantic that I forgot it was Saturday. And it never hit me that my BFF was sleeping over and that was never allowed on a school night.

I'm only a fan of April Fool's if I am the one playing the pranks, not the other way around. But I try to keep my pranks sweet.

Haha, my kids keep pulling "pranks" on me today, things like "mom, i can't find my coat", and "mom, your shoes are untied"...I fall for it every time!

I'm with you..I hate this day because I hate false promises, hate looking forward to something to have it go belly up or not happen at all.
Plus I'm blonde so they get me every single time. UGH.
It's like Halloween for me, another day I despise.
but it was nice to meet you and I'll be over to your Pad soon. :)

My kids are so young right now that their ideas for jokes on daddy were so innocent...that it was actually fun! I'm not really sure why we need a day to trick on another though. It's a strange one!
