I totally agree. I think the same thing myself when the house is quiet and they are asleep. I can't believe my youngest is going to be FOUR this summer. It's really bittersweet!

My favorite part of my night is when I go to check on my kids before I go to bed. I can't snuggle on Teagan ecause she isn't a snuggly sleepy kid and snuggling wakes her up. But I do tuck her in and brush her hair back from her face. Zach is the one I can love on while he sleeps- I kiss his cheeks and hands and belly and toes and he will sometimes reach out for me as I go to stand up... asking for more. I love that time with each of them!

I still love when I catch one of them smiling in their sleep.

Awww. You are so right, we need to cherish the moments even when they are arguing. Because one day the quiet moments will be when they are gone.
One of my biggest reasons for quitting work--so I could enjoy my babies now.

I'm the same way. After all the chaos that happens in the day, I feel like such a failure on some nights. Why can't I just be more patient, calmer about everything??

So true. When I am older and the kids leave, I know I'll be wishing for all those moments that I wanted to speed by.

My husband snapped at our 7 year old, "Grow up!" when she was whining. And, I thought, "Nooo! Slow down!"

Oh for the LOVE I fee exactly the same way. I slept in the guest room w/ my big kid last night...he was feverish and shares a room w/ his lil brother so he wanted some mommy time and who was I to say no? I just cuddled his little 5 year old self and stared at him for almost an hour before falling asleep. Sigh.

I was so feeling these today. I often wish the day would move along so that they will go to bed and dream sweet dreams and it will be quiet. Then they are quiet and sleeping and I remember that soon. Very soon, they will not want to play with me anymore, and my house will be quiet and empty soon enough. I need to learn patience. Enjoy each moment, regardless of how loud they are.

Oh now this I can relate to! It's so so true. But it can be so hard to be appreciative of all their energy when they're driving us crazy all day!! I think as long as we take a moment, even when they're sleeping, every day to commit to memory, we're doing okay.

No matter how mean Babe has been, if he naps too long I have to restrain waking him sometimes because he looks so sweet and peaceful and it makes me want to cuddle. Then he wakes up and is in everything, climbing everywhere, pulling my hair and squealing the brain piercing squeal of death. :]

Ditto. :-) I see Big Sister walking, and she's going into 1st grade at the beginning of August. And she poses for the camera and thinks that boys are cute already, and ohmygosh. *facepalm* But, every stage is so much fun -- fond stuff to look back on, so much to look forward to!

You know, it is so odd, as I am looking from the other end. My "baby" is 17! One thing that has been funny is that I have to be willing to stay up late as it seems she opens up more and more the later it gets! So if I want to have open communication with her, I have to stay up til midnight or later! Lol!
Love your blog!

That was beautiful!!! Recently my "sister" Rachel...the one whos daughter passed away last month of cancer said something to me that has not left me head. She said "spend each day as if you won't see tomorrow, give that extra hug even if you don't have the time because what if you woke up the next day and they weren't there to hug. Try not to have any regrets and do not wish away time." So true....thats why I loved this post!

This is so true! I wish I would have read this earlier in the day. There's something so perfect about those times when I watch them sleep that I wish I could just stop time all together. At those moments I wish there were no such thing as time. It's too short. Thanks for this sweet reminder.

It's that little tug of war that I imagine is always going on inside of you.

I'm doing that with school right now. Part of me is thinking, "Let's get this junk over with!" and another part is thinking, "Wait a damn minute! How did I get here so quickly?"

Although, I suppose life is always kind of like that, eh?
