I'll Never Understand

Do you know how I deal with the possibility of bad things happening?

I try to pretend like they won't happen to me. Or my family. Or anyone close to me. Or even anyone that I know at all.

But, the reality is that we never really know what is going to happen. I'm sending prayers of comfort and strength and asking you to do the same for my friend Daffy, whose family is going through something really tough right now. I'm speechless. And heartbroken and angry and I can't say or do anything that will make it better. Her 35 year-old sister... Daffy has to say goodbye to her. Her sister, who will leave a 5 year-old behind. I just don't get it. Please go over and tell her that you are sending prayers.

wtfo

I will never understand why these things happen. And when they do, I want to hide. I want to grab my kids and my husband and hide out somewhere, where nothing bad can get to us. I feel completely helpless.

And so, today, when I'm feeling heartbroken over a senseless loss, I want to feel like I'm doing something. So, we are talking about Monkey right now.

As you probably know, today is being dedicated as Worldwide Mission Monkey day.

Our blog friend  Pixie Momma, Michelle, has a little girl we know as Monkey who has been diagnosed with Neuroblastoma.  To learn more about it, click here. Monkey is a sweet little 16 month old girl.  She doesn't deserve this.  Nobody deserves this.

There is good news: Monkey only has Stage 1 (low risk).  The bad news is the medical bills are mounting and the Physical Therapy isn't covered by insurance.  Michelle is using the donated money to offset medical bills.  She will donate any unused portion to another family dealing with the same issue. Because that is what we do: we help each other.

This is why the blogging universe is banning together like never before to rally around Michelle and Monkey to provide support.  I hope that you will donate, even if it isn't much, anything that you can do will add up- there are SO many of us- so every little bit will add up!

In addition, if you do donate, you are eligible to win one of the over 50 items that have been donated.  Many bloggers are hosting these fabulous giveaways and all you need to win one of these items is just one raffle ticket.

You can check out the items at these links:

While I will never understand why things like this happen, I do know that we should do our best to help out when we can. Whether it's a prayer, a donation, or helping to spread the word.

I just don't know how much my poor little heart can take. I am beside myself with grief, and helpless. Sorrow is such a bitter pain to bear.

I think it is wonderful how the blogging community is rallying around Monkey and supporting her family. I will be making my donation soon as well. This is the worst thing that can happen to a family, and especially to a small baby like that. You are so right...it could be ANY one of us!

I feel the same way. I just like to pretend that things are not bad, and hide away from it all.

I was so out of the loop all day yesterday. Thanks for the email this morning. Can my family come with you to that place where bad stuff can't reach you? I am heartbroken for Daffy and her family.

You said it perfectly. I am terrified of something like this happening to me or my family. I wish we could all just grow very old and none of the sickness and stupid cancer and all the crazy stuff out there could touch us. I am glad to hear Monkey's cancer prognosis is good and totally devastated for our Daffy. **Hugs**

These things when they happen to anyone just wreck your head because there is no explanation, no rhyme or reason. I am so very sorry to hear about your friend's sister. I am glad to hear Monkey's cancer has been diagnosed as Stage 1, at last some "good" news if you can call it that for her family.

It is times like this when people need their friends and Shelley having friends like you who care and act to support them must mean a great deal.

Unfortunately, I can't donate right now, but I can offer lots and lots of prayers... and HOPE. One of my dear coworkers' sons was diagnosed with STAGE 4 neuroblastoma just over a year ago. As of last week, he's reached NED (no evidence of disease)! He is winning this battle! If that isn't hope and faith, I don't know what is!

Lovely post, SHell...I am going to share it.

I already donated $$ for Monkey via Paypal and also a Go Green package of goodies...I'm relieved it's Stage 1 and am hopeful for the best possible outcome.

Thank you for all that you are doing to support all of these people!

God Bless both our blogging families. My heart aches for Daffy and her sister. Life is a fragile road we need to spend every second of it, truly loving the people who are there along the way of our journey.

Thanks Shell. Beautiful post.

I wish I had the magic answer. I don't. Our part is praying for those in need. Letting them know we love and support them anyway we can.

I've always been a worry wart and I always think bad things will happen to my fam for some reason. But cancer is probably the one thing where I think, "Oh that will never happen to me." But it so could.

I can relate to convincing yourself that the really bad things will never touch you or the people you love. I'm so good at it by now that I can do it in the face of medical diagnoses and jail sentences at once. I think sometimes, though, it makes it harder for me to accept the bad things when they come knockin' on my front door.

I love how much everyone has come together to support Monkey and her family. It's such a beautiful thing to see.

It's never gets easier to hear these kind of stories.
I hope you find a million reasons to smile this weekend.
