Blog Friend Feature: A Double Feature!

If you are here for my Red Dress Club entry, it is the next post down.

This is a first for Blog Friend Feature! Because I'm not just featuring a fabulous blog that you should know about, but I'm being featured on her blog! If you are here visiting from Theta Mom, welcome!

Heather, probably better known as Theta Mom, has created an amazing community for mom bloggers. If you are not a part of it, I suggest you check it out!  She also has a new Marketplace feature on her blog, where she features women-owned brands.

Meet Theta Mom:

Sex and the City was one of my favorite series on television because of the show’s brilliant narration. Carrie Bradshaw’s musings about life and relationships were always so emotionally connected and real. At times, she was a bit dramatic and somewhat over-analytic but to me, this narration was always authentic.

She shared explicit moments and always articulated exactly what she was thinking even when the truth hurt. Although she may have appeared jealous, clingy or even insecure at different points throughout the show, she truly communicated real and raw emotions as she was experiencing love and relationships.

Aren’t those feelings exactly what we experience as mothers as well?

We narrate our own stories with raw emotion and sensitivity.

We admit the fact that this motherhood gig is far from glamorous and sure the hell isn’t easy. Don’t we sometimes over-analyze the situation, especially when it comes to our children? At times, don’t we feel inadequate that the job we are doing may not be enough? Don’t we often question our decisions in this process?

Isn’t that true authenticity?

Regardless of her style, the moment she becomes a mother I picture Carrie Bradshaw changing diapers for the first time and recognizing the not so glamorous aspect of motherhood.

I imagine her agonizing over the reality of sleepless nights and freaking out about her postpartum figure.

As a result of having a baby, I envision the description of her post-partum sex life…or lack thereof.

I can see her shopping at Barneys and unable to purchase the latest Jimmy Choo heels because her newborn could really use the money more.

I imagine her disappointment when she must decline attending a premier event because her baby suddenly became ill.

I predict that she will be torn between work and home, desperately trying to find a balance to make this whole thing work…

But I also envision Carrie trying to find the right words to share the most amazing experience she’s ever encountered, attempting to describe the kind of love she’s never felt before - for another human being.

I imagine Carrie dreaming of her newborn and finding herself more centered as a mother, allowing her life to be more about her baby than her own.

I see her making sacrifices, learning from her mistakes and demonstrating the way her life has been forever changed…for the better.

Carrie Bradshaw would be a Theta Mom.

So if she ever becomes pregnant, maybe I should be the first to congratulate her.

And welcome her to the club.

Please leave Heather some comment love here and then go follow Theta Mom or join her community!

And welcome to anyone stopping over from Theta Mom!  Feel free to poke around! Or check out a post I felt it necessary to write because I'm a mom to three boys: The Pants Rules.

Congrats on being featured. While I never have been able to shop like Carrie, as a writer I (and I think many of us bloggers) know all too well how hard it becomes to put pen to paper on motherhood. Every post is a triumph.

And yes, Carrie Bradshaw would be a ThetaMom... because I would have to stop liking the show if she weren't. Boo.

Very fun and thought-provoking post, Theta Mom. I love the way my worldview has changed since I had kids. And you are SO RIGHT about it not being glamorous. On Friday night we had guests for dinner (who I had never met before). My son called me into the bathroom to give him a wipe after, well, you know. All I could say when I emerged from the bathroom (this happened twice!) was "motherhood isn't so glamorous, right?" The other mom understood. Thank goodness.

I love Heather and her blog! Congrats on being featured on her blog today as well!

Motherhood is far from glamorous, but it's good to know that we all feel this way and can support and understand each other.

I am a HUGE SATC fan, so this was so much fun to read, to imagine what Carrie would be like as a mom (Finally) ..and it's the reason they should really think about a SATC3 (and a much better script)

it was so nice to "meet you" Theta Mom, you're awesome.

CONGRATS on being the TMC Feature!! YAY! and YES I would so love to see how Carrie would handle/juggle motherhood! Off to read about the Pants Rules because I have one boy (3 1/2) and a girl...if I had a dime every time I had to say "get your hands out of your pants, don't pick your nose, you NEED to wear pants today" I'd be a millionaire!

Stopping by from Theta Mom. First, LOVE your idea of an anonymous blog. You're doing what I wish I had done. There are SO MANY posts I've chickened out on publishing because I'm afraid someone from my husband's work or a family member will read it from Facebook. UGH. Your "Pour Your Heart Out" Meme? Awesome. I actually tried to do something similar, called "Mind Sweep". I was so excited about the logo I came up with..but the linky never caught on. It's hard getting a linky for a new blog to catch on! Anyhoo - love your stuff, can't wait to poke around. Congrats on your TMC day - Heather's the best!!

What a wonderful post! That was such an absolutely different perspective on being or becoming a mother. You know we honestly never think of it to the detail and extent you described and I thank you for opening my eyes to what it takes and how wonderful it is to be a mother, I don't always think about it with 3 kids in tow.

Being a guy it would surprise many that I actually really liked Sex in the City (The show, not the movies so much especially the second one) It was a really funny show and gave me a view into the female mind that I never had access to before.

I think Carrie would be the kind of mom you described. She would hate not going to the parties but would be thankful for taking care of her baby.
