How I was Oh-So Wrong....and a Mommypants Moment

I found out just how wrong I was about something this weekend.  But, hey, I'm often wrong and okay with admitting it.

I swore up and down that I am a total booklover at heart and love ACTUAL books. That a Kindle or Nook were NOT for me. I love to browse in the library, have a book in my hand, be able to flip back to reread something, and always have a stack of books in my to-be-read pile.

And then Hubs was given a Kindle for Christmas from his work- along with all the guys in his office. They are supposed to be well-read and the Kindle is supposed to help with this. I'm really trying hard not to laugh at this since um, Hubs hates to read. He won't even read a short blog post from me...unless it's one of my posts on Babble like this one where he could watch a video banned from CMT or this one where he could check out the preview for the new Fast and Furious movie. Vin Diesel, yum.

Anyway, it was left to me to check out the Kindle...and I discovered all the FREE books I could download. So, I cuddled up on the couch with a blanket, hot chocolate, and *MY* Kindle. And I'm addicted.

I was wrong. I admit it. My name is Shell and it took me one day to become a Kindle-addict.

*****

I was asked by the fabulous Cheryl over at Mommy Pants to share my Mommy Pants moment.  Please do me a favor and go check it out HERE. You'll get an even worse admission from me: just how hard it was for me to put on my mommy pants.

And be sure to check out my iCaughtSanta giveaway- I put it up this weekend and it ends tomorrow night so that you can have a pic of Santa "caught" in your house for Christmas. FIVE winners and low entries. Enter HERE

I was convinced that I would not like the Kindle, then the husband gave me one for my birthday, and then I loved it... and then, the love affair turned out to be more of a quickie. I started to miss books, A LOT. So now, I rarely use my kindle. I still like it, but I see myself using it more for when I'm away on vacations (yeah like I take vacations, ha).

anyway, enjoy your kindle :)

My hubs is just like yours - doesn't read. I on the other hand would love a Kindle for all those long car trips to Mississippi! Now I know what I'm asking for Valentine's Day!

I am one that knew I would love the kindle. And I was right! The boys got me one for my birthday last summer, and it's awesome! The FREE list is so fun! It was hard b/c I am not used to paying for books. I swap, do the library, and I do still LOVE a real book, but I'm not ashamed to admit I LOVE my Kindle too! :)

too funny!!! And being a book lover, it it the reason I have refused to pick up my mom's nook (just TRY it), my sister's IPad or Kindle (c'mon, this is totally for you...you'll fall in love!!!) No, library time is wonderful time HEHEHE

I can admit I totally would become addicted too :)

I've been in that same boat too. I'll eventually get one, but I try to wait until the hype dies down ... along with the cost! I'm hoping for kindle/ipad in the next couple of years, but I'm not willing to pay for either one just yet!

I LOVE your icaughtSanta review. I think it's the cutest idea ever. Baby is a little too young for it this year, but I sent the link (to your give away, not just their site) to EVERYONE I know with kids! :)

my hubby got me a kindle for Christmas and it's true- it's instantly addicting. I think it's just like a real book though, unlike the ipad or things of that nature. I don't like the nook either. The kindle is perfect! I've already read about 7 books in the month I've had it.

I always thought a kindle wouldn't be right for me too - I love holding a paper book. But have been starting to wonder if I would like it after I saw my sisters iphone's book capabilities.

Noooooooo we lost another one to the dark side. (or the lightly glowing electronic side)

Although, I will admit, there is this moment where you said free books and I...um...just for a second mind you....though about how nice that was.

There. I said it. I considered a Kindle. But just for a second!

I saw those posts of yours on Babble. Congrats on the new gig!

I think this is why I fear the Kindle, as well as the Nook.

Right now, I love me some book-feelin' and book-smellin'. I, too, have made a stink of how I would never forsake books for technology.

I'm afraid that were I given a Kindle of my very own, I would jump on that bandwagon like a crooked poliician.

Takes a strong woman to admit that. I wish you and your Kindle tidings of joy.

I am afraid to get one because I know I would be a total addict. I must say that I will still keep books too. I would not trust taking a kindle to the beach to read.

It really is the BEST THING EVER!!! Oh, and watch it decrease your clutter too. Books will start to make their way to Goodwill b/c you don't need them. Your entire library is on your Kindle and will be for the rest of your life!!!! It has changed the way I read.

BTW, to Michelle right above me...it's awesome on the beach too!

I didn't know you could get a bunch of free books! I normally buy all my books used for less than 5 dollars so I always thought it would be too expensive to have to buy them all.

I wonder what books are available for free? Hmm...I might have to rethink the whole eReader thing. :)

I haven't asked for one yet for the simple fact that I think books would cost too much for it. However after reading your post, I may just have to for next Christmas!

I said I would hate it and then fell in LOVE. Always read books with a metal stand at meals out. So, I made one for my Kindle and people keep buying them whenever they see it! BUT, what I love most is that I can sync it up with my computer and my phone so, when I don't want to carry the Kindle, I can use my phone to read during free time! LOVE THAT! And still enjoy holding a book, too.
